GBLA is currently accepting applications for experienced candidates to work in our housing unit as our Housing Navigators. Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or Behavioral Science and two (2) years verified experience in provision of Social Work services. The successful candidate must have the ability to manage client documents, write clearly and concisely, and be proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook, and Westlaw.
In Kern County, low-wage workers who have been hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic are facing a crisis of evictions, predatory rent increases, and housing discrimination. GBLA is a legal service non-profit that combines policy advocacy and impact litigation with direct legal services. We routinely have multiple impact cases pending at any one time, and we specialize in housing, immigration, and economic advancement. Our legal advocates work side-by-side with low-income communities, to bring about lasting change.
The Housing Navigator will use a screening tool to determine client’s needs, goals, and eligibility for non- legal services and resources. The ideal candidate must be competent and compassionate with assisting low-income tenants with apartment search, rental applications, employment applications, utility assistance applications, healthcare related needs, moving school records or assistance in maintaining enrollment in the current school, accessing public benefits, and other needs as identified.
This position will provide proactive follow-through to ensure utilization of services, and will maintain consistent communication channels, both verbal and written, between several parties (e.g., tenant, referral source, collaborating agencies. We will only consider candidates with the listed education/work history.
