This position is located in the Respiratory Therapy department of the Claremore Indian Hospital, Claremore, OK. The position is responsible for providing Respiratory Care services to neonate to adult patients as prescribed by the medical provider. The position reports to the Supervisory Respiratory Therapist.

The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3. Establish and maintain mechanical ventilation for newborn, pediatric, and adult patients.

Establish and maintain care of non-invasive ventilated adult patients.

The ability to perform arterial blood gas punctures, analyze, interpret lab values and take appropriate action.

Perform diagnostic Pulmonary Function Testing for patients requiring Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Slow Vital Capacity (SVC), Lung Volumes (FRC), and Diffusing Capacities (DLCO) including the ability to complete calibrations/quality controls including biological quality controls as scheduled on the PFT analyzer according to manufacturer's guidelines and hospital policy and procedure.

Demonstrate expertise in the administration of a variety of treatment modalities including, but not limited to hand held nebulizers, continuous nebulizers, oxygen therapy, and chest percussion.

Occasional travel - Overnight travel (or other Travel requiring authorization) may be required.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:

GS-9: One year experience in Critical Care, with use of ventilators and CPAP/BiPAP equipment; Experience in all modalities of respiratory care and equipment, including but not limited to, ventilators (neonatal-adult), CPAP/BiPAP equipment, blood gas analyzers, percussors, pulse oximeters, Oxygen analyzers, flowmeters, pulmonary function equipment and testing, disassembling, cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing reusable respiratory equipment. Troubleshooting and maintaining respiratory equipment; maintaining patient records and documentation.


Two full years of graduate education or Master's degree. Graduate education meets the specialized experience required only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
