The purpose of the position is to serve as a technical authority/subject matter expert for CDC on matters involving the vulnerabilities and threats to CDC's information technology systems. This is a National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Framework Cyber Skills position.
As an IT CyberSecurity Specialist (INFOSEC) (Direct Hire), you will: Perform cybersecurity mission related work in adherence with the National Institute for Technology (NIST). Provide guidance and support for systems security. Provide advice and insight into the overall management and evaluation of system security posture. Perform complete assessment of the system portfolio, determine priority of systems that need to be accredited per policy, and ensure prompt compliance. Review system security packages and accreditation status. Serve as liaison to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), other IT leaders and customers. Propose, coordinate, implement, and enforce information systems security policies, standards, and methodologies. Develop, execute and maintain a continuous monitoring plan to validate information protection effectiveness. Implement security designs in hardware, software, data, procedures and verify security requirements, and perform system certification and accreditation planning, testing, and liaison activities. Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience assessing risk in IT systems (performing audit, test, assessment, or similar functions); identifying unpatched vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and defects in other security controls specified in NIST SP 800-53A; implementing the functions identified in the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and the NIST Risk Management Framework (NIST SP 800-37) to identify and communicate system and program risk to decision makers. Additional Qualifying experience for the GS-14 grade level requires IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication and Problem Solving. 1.
